When Counting Crows had their first big hit, I was at the midst of my DJ career. At the time there were a number of new bands and one hit wonders on the scene. Mr. Jones was just another novelty tune to me, and I refused to jump on the bandwagon.

Six years later, Counting Crows are still cranking out hits. Their latest is no different than the previous hits. Counting Crows crank out solid pop tunes that are filled with metaphors for life in general. There is earnest anxiety in all of the tunes I've heard, even in songs about the most mundane subjects.

Hangin' Around, their latest single, is a perfect example of the blasé set to music. The chorus of Hangin' Around doesn't do justice to the angst in Adam Duritz's voice:

I've been hangin' around this town on the corner
I've bummin' arond this old town so long
I've been hangin' around this town on the corner
I've been bummin' around this old town way too long

The powerful vocals and guitar riffs combined with bouncy house style piano beats assure that this song will be a top 40 hit.

With this album I got exactly what I expected from the Counting Crows. I wasn't disappointed. This is a must have for any Counting Crows fan, and a solid addition to any album collection. Definitely a great album for increasing the diameter of your beer gut. Have a brew with Counting Crows.
