Big Beef Music Review

By Tim

Click to Hear Tim EastonIf you are familiar with the harmonica, you will at least recognize the name of the album that I am reviewing today. The album has been in my possesion for nearly six months, but this is my first opportunity to review it. I would like to say that I have been holding it back because it is just so awsome, but I cannot. The album is called Special 20 (a type of harmonica) by Tim Easton a local boy from Ohio. This is his first release in America (the previous album was released in the Czech Republic for some reason). It was released in 1998 under the Heathen Records label and was produced by Brad Jones and Robin Eaton.

Special 20 is not quite a country, not quite a pop, and not quite a blues/bluegrass album. The best way to describe it is as a folk album with some zing. The music includes sounds from the harmonica (suprise), banjo, guitar, drums, and a couple of others. It is mostly acoustic, stuff that you might hear played/sung around the campfire. The music and the vocals are excellent and though the review s published on T.E.'s websight speak glowingly of his lyrics, I don't think that they are the best. Read the album jacket and you might agree with me. I think if you really like country or folk music you will love this album. If you do not... The best pop song on the album, and the only song to receive airtime on the local radio station, is Help Me Find My Spacegirl. I bought the album for this song (if anybody has seen her please let me know) and I do not think it was a complete waste of money.

Overall I rate this cd 2 BB & B's. Buy it if you are interested in trying something else or if you like country/folk music (4BB&B's in that case).

Ranking:   out of 5 BB&B's.
