Spoon’s latest album Transference has everything I like about Spoon. It features Britt Daniel’s cool vocals, and the band’s pop infused indie rock sound with sometimes funky dance beats. The question it seems is what is this album all about? Meriam-Webster defines transference as “the redirection of feelings and desires and especially of those unconsciously [...]

Whenever I travel, I like to sample the local brews. In Chicago, it seems that the predominant local beer is brewed by Goose Island brewery. I reviewed their Christmas Ale a few years ago, and since then I haven't been pining for other Goose Island brews. In Chicago though, there is no avoiding it. So with an open mind, I downed some Goose Island Harvest Ale.

He signed autographs, and posed for pictures for all who asked. I was sorry we did not have our camera. The staff kept people away from the Coach while he ate, but he allowed visitors between courses. I was really impressed. I stopped to shake his hand on our way out, and told him about this review.

Last year I read in the BB&B about an adventure the boys had with something called "wild game night." That name conjured up images of a rustic sportsman's club, with low, beamed ceilings, smoke-filled rooms, and burly men in plaid shirts. Well, 2 out of 3 ain't bad. This year I accompanied the BB&B crew and friends on their second annual trip to this first-Friday-in-February event. There was plenty of cigar smoke and more plaid-shirted men than you could literally shake a stick at. More on the rooms later...

In order to expand the boundaries of pop-rock, popularity is usually required. Mike Filipek and his debut CD, Come On In!, are worthy of the admiration and jubilation of the music hungry masses. Consequently, if Mike can get the exposure he deserves and desires, he may just expand the pop-rock genré, and Big Beef and Beer will be proud to say they helped.

Our winter brewfest continues. This week, I chose a beer that I believed didn't have a snowball's chance of being a good beer. It even said so on the label. Snowball's Chance Winter Ale by the Blue Ridge division of the Frederick Brewery however, has more than a snowball's chance of being a good beer. It is a suprisingly pleasant winter brew...
