Disabled Veterans May Qualify for Social Security Disability Benefits
Today is Veterans’ Day, and as expected and deserved, veterans are getting a lot of attention. However, it seems that some of our disabled vets are not getting all of the help they deserve. Today I heard on Ohio Public Radio (during All Things Considered from NPR) that 43% percent of all disabled veterans are not receiving Social Security benefits they may be eligible to receive.
There seems to be some confusion about their eligibility. Some may believe they are not eligible because they are already receiving disability income from the Veteran’s Administration. This is not true. The two are not mutually exclusive.
While I was unable to verify the OPR news report online, I did find the Disability Benefits for Wounded Warriors page of the Social Security Administration. This page has useful information for disabled vets and their loved ones and caretakers. The site includes information about how to file a claim and how to expedite the process.
Please share this information with any disabled veterans and their families. Veterans are our true heroes, and they deserve our respect and support. They have fought to preserve the quality of our lives; let us do everything we can to improve the quality of their lives!
